The brief

What we built.

A second, bolder concept for the same tattoo studio: the booking path is a revolver cylinder you load, spin and fire. A concept we built unprompted, to show what the site could be; not affiliated with the business.

  • A gold revolver cylinder that doubles as the section navigation
  • Sections for the work, the styles, the artist, the process and the cover-up
  • A “before you book” section for first-timers
  • 21 pages with local search markup

The business

Who we were dealing with.

A high-end, appointment-only custom tattoo and cosmetic artistry studio specialising in vibrant full-color neo-traditional and color realism.

TownCape Coral, FL (relocated from Harmony, PA)
CustomersClients seeking one-on-one custom colour work by appointment; old site served Harmony, Zelienople, Cranberry and greater Pittsburgh, with guest spots in Southwest Florida.

Their brand as it was

  • Circular 'OT' logo in copper and teal
  • Swamp / cypress-water photo backgrounds
  • Teal and cream palette with serif type
  • Tagline: Crafting eternal tales through artistic self-expression
  • Calm 'Florida sunshine' studio vibe: teal walls, navy velvet sofa, koi/octopus art

Worth knowing

  • The artist was a contestant on Ink Master: Angels Season 1 (from his own social bios; not mentioned on the old studio site)
  • Deposit required and non-refundable; not booked until the deposit is paid
  • The artist's social media shows an interest in vikings and guns, which inspired this second direction
  • Old site was a Squarespace template

The research

How we studied the industry, top to bottom.

Why this business

  • Second concept for the same client, who the user was already talking to
  • The first concept (the tattooed arm) was locked; this one explores a different personality for the same content

The industry

  • For a tattoo artist the portfolio is the whole sale: clients judge by photos of finished work
  • Clients expect to book from the phone: request form, deposit, consent paperwork, aftercare and FAQ
  • Style pages and city pages help Google match searches
  • Flash and events are common secondary offers

The local market

  • Studio moved to Cape Coral, with Fort Myers, Naples and Lee County as the wider area
  • Concept includes Cape Coral, Fort Myers and Naples tattoo pages
  • Five themed structures explored: Cylinder, Collector's Case, Longship, Mead Hall and Runestone

What we found

  • Old site had no tap-to-call, no booking button on the first screen, one tattoo image and no credit for the TV appearance
  • No style pages, city pages, reviews, FAQ or aftercare

The audit

What was holding it back.

Tested 2026-10-25

  • Local Lighthouse performance 43; PageSpeed 59
  • Main content (LCP) 9.9 s (local)
  • First paint 3.4 s (local)
  • Blocking time 910 ms (local)
  • Page weight 4.0 MB
  • 0 tel: links on the site
  1. Portfolio page has one image of tattoo work; homepage shows no tattoos at all
  2. No tap-to-call anywhere; the phone number is plain text on inner pages only
  3. No booking button on the first screen; appointment request lives only in the menu
  4. Main content takes nearly 10 seconds to appear on a phone and the page weighs 4 MB
  5. No H1 on the homepage
  6. No reviews, artist bio or photo, styles explained, aftercare or FAQ
  7. Only 4 pages: no style pages, no city pages, no cosmetic service page
  8. Low-contrast text over the swamp background
  9. Typo in the copy ('feeel right at home')
  10. Generic Squarespace template

Brand & design

The Revolver Cylinder (Locked. Loaded. Custom.) direction.

An engraved blued-steel revolver cylinder with gold scrollwork turns as you scroll and loads a brass round for each section, with ravens, candles and red velvet around it. It plays on the artist's love of guns and vikings while the tattoo machine is called the only gun in the shop; no gun body, muzzle or aim at the viewer.

  • Bone#efe8dc
  • Gold#d4a24c
  • Brass#c08a3e
  • Red#a3122a
  • Bright red#c4182f

Type

  • Cinzel engraved-style serif for headlines
  • Barlow for body
  • Caveat handwritten script for notes

Signature moments

  • Engraved cylinder turns on scroll and loads a round at each section
  • Hero line 'Locked. Loaded. Custom.'
  • Gold firearm-style scroll engraving corners, dividers and a side rail
  • Perched and flying ravens
  • Heirloom engraved tattoo machine
  • Booking form beside the fully loaded cylinder

Imagery

  • Generated cylinder, brass round, hub medallion, ravens, engraving ornaments, hero scene, engraved machine, wide artist scene and steel texture
  • Safe-symbol rule: no guns pointed at the viewer, no skulls, no hate symbols
  • Gallery shows an 'See the latest on Instagram' panel until real photos arrive

Round 4 explored five Viking-and-gun structures (Cylinder 9, Collector's Case 8.5, Longship 8, Mead Hall 7.5, Runestone 7); Cylinder chosen, refined in v5 and locked as desktop-v5-7.
